MediaTek and Ericsson drive 5G Standalone Dual Connectivity Commercialization

Ericsson and MediaTek demonstrated 5G Standalone Dual Connectivity based on a commercial software track from Ericsson for 5G Core and RAN, and a user device featuring MediaTek M80 5G modem. The test combined 60MHz of sub-6 GHz (Frequency Range 1, FR1) spectrum with 800MHz of mmWave (FR2) spectrum to enable 5Gbps of downlink data performance for an individual user.

With the needs of communications service providers and their customers firmly in mind, MediaTek and Ericsson are working closely together to to drive the innovation and commercialization around 5G Standalone connectivity. This test proves that Dual Connectivity – combining the wide coverage of sub-6 GHz bands with the higher data rates of mmWave on commercial hardware and chipsets – further boosts the 5G user experience with notably greater speeds and lower latency.
